I am on one of the trials and it isn't just about installing the equipment, there needs to be an education programme for both ISP and OR staff and end-users.

G.fast is pushing current technologies to its limits.

Apart from reducing the distance service is available from a cabinet there are a lot of other variables.

Speed is much more weather dependent
Engineers equipment needs updating - a phone engineer repairing a line fault couldn't then test my line as his kit only measured up to 100Mbps
Some fault finding kit doesn't work if there is G.fast equipment on the circuit
End users need to be more savvy - a Cat5 cable which worked well for 80/20 won't give you the best speeds with G.fast
PC settings need to be tuned to get the best in a way which wasn't an issue with lower speeds.

I have had it two months and I am still learning. Various speedcheckers give me various speeds, some consistent across a variety of browsers, some higher on one browser and lower on another.

Until more training and understanding is gained by those responsible for providing the service is in place and better guidance for those having the service available its full potential will not be realised in my opinion.

I've noticed a lot of activity in Telford recently, Openreach with big drums of fibre feeding it down the ducts but the cabs around here are all FTTC and have been for years.

Do they pull fresh fibre for G.FAST?

No, that's for FTTPoD & FTTC (more cabinets). Nothing to do with G.Fast.

If you want more speed why don't you give Virgin a go again?

300Mb is available in Telford now. 30 day cancellation if it's rubbish although my friend gets 200+ 24/7 in TF2.

Could be leased lines, FTTP for new builds, FTTP for infil, or it could be some "dark" fibre installation.

From what I gather, the G.fast nodes get their power and fibre connections from the FTTC cab (cabs are usually fitted with 6 I believe).

The same around here, Openreach laying more fibre optic cable. Don't know what is it for? As all the cabinets are all done here too.

I got virgin media cable 200/12 here. But my area isn't on 350/20 yet.
