Just because the ordering system is useless doesn't mean the port is changed. The port is never changed when switching ISP.

edit: never might be the wrong word. The port generally isn't/doesn't need changed. Their may be circumstances I'm unaware of where the port needs changed, but it isn't for the average ISP switch.

The customers are being ripped off for activation fee's which should only be charged for the initial FTTC connection when an engineerndoes actually visit the cabinet. Why hasn't this been challeneged?

@zarjaz can you confirm there's no cabinet work done with a switch of ISP's on FTTC?

Yes, you should be able to set the Asus router to Automatic, if not IPoe.
The Huawei HG612 works with talktalk with its default configuration (as a bridge modem).
