Re: Silverstone cabinet 4 location info

The cabinet is finally active (as of about an hour ago), so I've been looking around for BB deals. One thing that's slightly concerning is that BT have sync rate quotes of between 35 and 42Mb/s down. That seems a little low to me and I've 'measured' the distance at around 600 paces, following the man holes, overhead lines and defects in the pavement where work's taken place. Do BT usually low ball on the sync rates?

For reference, on my current copper connection, the connection will sync at between 18 and 19Mb/s (@ circa 3.2dB SNRM) depending on which modem I use and when I sync the device. And Attn is 25dB - 25.5dB depending on which modem I use.

Speeds can vary wildly, I get 45/6 at around 450 to 500 meters, some will get almost 80/20 at the same distance.

The estimates do seem to be on the cautious side, but will take into account the effects of possible crosstalk.

Thanks, that was kind of my suspicion/ hope.

I'm just getting the service priced up with my current provider and will risk the extra cost of the 80/20 package just to experiment. At the worst, it will be £60 wasted over the 12 month contract period but, even if the down rates are on the low side, I may claw back some value on a higher than 10Mb/s upstream rate.
