A decent switch with fibre will do though? The right SFP modules in the right switch will do anything from a few meters to 80km. No idea how much the fibre would cost, but FS.com do cheap sfp modules, and switches are anything from £30 upwards from ebay.

There's probably proper kit to do this smile

If the farmer is willing to co-operate then all you need to do is persuade BT/OR that you are setting up your own business in that building and you need comms before doing any other work.

And if it needs another pole - somewhere around £800-1000 then with you and a few neighbours the cost will be quite small for each of you.

I'm thinking just a media convertor for £25 would do, no need for a switch, but luckily I work for a company that makes pretty good ones smile

1.5km from farmers out building, average 60m span per pole, 25 poles £800-1000 a pole from OR talking £20k at least, thats excluding any cabling on the pole, any wayleaves costs of land inbetween.

I was referring to the possible need of an extra pole to get the connection to the outbuilding.

Check out this YouTube user.

He has an FTTC connection from a "neighbour" connected via a Radio link to his and other properties. He uses some sort of Point to Point link and then a media converter (I think) and then routers and switches, but he is sharing it with other neighbours.

Technically he has 2 x FTTC connections as you can see in the videos. Look at the "tour" video and the remote location video.

I would assume (based on that video) that IF he managed to get OR to connect up an FTTC connection outside (as it appears to be) you could do the same with an FTTP connection.

Would the neighbour object to an enclosure being placed on the outside their house? I guess that would be cheaper and easier to install.

I hope that helps.

CJT.
