Re: Fibre link

We are getting a little bit more technical here which is why I avoided mentioning EAD as people in the past have started arguing with me on the subject. When I know what Im talking about as I work kn exchanges nearly every day of my working life.

Its accurate to say that Vodafone have their own backhaul, but its over Openreach fibre (EAD). But its down to Vodafone to manage that, hence why you can think of it as their backhaul. If theyre running low, they can add another link. Also, its entirely separate to the BT Wholesale fibre entering and leaving the exchanges.

That last why I said its not correct for Voda to say itll be the same if you switch. They cant possibly know the situation with BT Wholesale, TalkTalk, Sky or Zens backhaul.

I would also add that its highly unlikely to be the fibre running from the cabinet to the handover exchange. Openreach are pretty good at managing that. Its more likely to be the Vodafone backhaul.

They use a fair bit of their optical platform (C&W era) for back-haul in the larger exchanges/on-net footprint.
I very much expect they would be using EBD where it makes sense, and OS(E)A in some places where they need the capacity.

Agreed there will be a good bit of EAD being used for backhaul out there though (or ONBS/BES where they haven't changed it yet).

Guess it depends on how big the OHP serving for the EU's exchange is, but I'd be suspicious that the contention may well be on their Cablelink to the L2S, most are still 1Gb...

Either way, it's fairly clear this is in Voda's court to address, if they want (It's a contended product at the end of the day, and they are going for the budget market).

Indeed, theyll try and avoid paying Openreach for backhaul fibre where at all possible. I know in my borough though theres only 3 out of 11 exchanges where the old C&W network gets anywhere close to though.
