The longest pre-made kit is 30m Paul.

I knew they did different lengths, but wasn't aware of the 30m, I know ours was very short, but ours just needed to go through the wall, so 1 metre would of been fine with loads left over.

ALWAYS easier to run externally I reckon.

True, but would depends on the exterior.

The cancellation thing does seem to vary a bit - we had two lines, one with plusnet & the other Sky, the plusnet line had a cease fee applied, the Sky one did not (which was what I expected - from memory there's an openreach charge applied for their lines, which may not apply to unbundled ones).

Yup, termination fees are the hidden cost! It cost us with 2circles.co.uk (via Openreach) £50 per line! If I cancel ADSL = £50 per line, or cancel the PSTN = £50 per line, but I found out that cancelling PSTN automatically cancels the ADSL on it as well (if you have one). Why? They said it is because an engineer has to come to the cabinet/exchange and something to switch off.

But..I also found out that porting / migrating your number to another provider also terminates your current phoneline + ADSL at the current provider. And porting (at least with some VOIP providers) can be £10-20 per line, much better!

A bit of an annoying loop hole that can rack up costs if you dont know what you are doing. So I guess we will be keeping our numbers then!

Openreach finished all the street works, they told us last week they pass it on to publishing team to get this into the database... so.... checking every day, but they did say 2 weeks. So it means end of this week or next. You can imagine how eager I am to get rid of those 5 ADSL modems, ADSL services, copper lines and load balancer for 1 neat FTTP.

Guess what, WBC FTTP, 330/50, 1 stage is made available yesterday!

Well I am not too sure if its due to BT sending the engineers to the cabinet or exchange to switch something off, my copper line was still connected due to it had power on the line when I checked it 3 months after our phone line was moved over to FVA.

Maybe its changed now I don't know, but I was never told I would be charged a cease on the line fee for moving over from ADSL to FTTP along with the phone line also moving over to FVA.

I cannot moan due to I paid no installation fee what so ever, so I am still better off than some would be, but it would of been nice to be told before hand.

Grats, I hope it all goes well, I know BT has been having issues when ordering FTTP as other people have been saying in other posts.

Keep up all updated on how it all goes.

p.s. you can still see your number on your image if you look carefully tongue

@Mendip.

I finally could place an order this morning! So it was great to be able to do so. However, they start explaining that Openreach will visit twice. One for a survey of the site/place (?) and another for installation. Only with the installation our presence is required.

Well, I am aware of the old style 2 stage visits, and the new connectorised system 1 stage visit. We are part of the latter one. Do you have any idea what this survey means? Or is That the Openreach system is not fully prepped yet to communicate the new way of working?

If you reply directly (click on the reply button above a post by Mendip) it would be easier for all to follow the thread, and Mendip, if set up for it, might get a notification that someone has replied to their post ....

The survey *may* just be done on paper by looking at network records and Google Streetview. But if that looks dubious they may well send a surveyor to site.

If fed overhead, then they will be looking at line of site to the property, carrier poles, D poles, joint user poles, trees, road crossings, etc, etc.

If underground is there a clear duct route, etc.

Also length from the CBT node ... should be less than approx 140m

So many things to be considered before sending the installer out, and there will be a 1st visit by an ID engineer to prove light from correct SASA to the routed port on the CBT.

Thanks for the tips, still need to get my head around this replying thing here. Could you explain what you mean with SASA. Is that where the CBT is eventually connected to the fibre exchange?

The SASA is the bundle of 32 fibres E sides if such a thing existed on FTTP.

Each of the 32 goes to specific point/tray in the the head end at the exchange. If the fibre from the DP/CBT. has been misrouted to the wrong SASA then upon activation the ONT serial number input will never be seen by the head end and the whole thing just will not come into service.

PITA but sadly it does happen.

5m is the shortest of the kits.

You are supposed to have 2m slack wound into the CSP.
