In reply to a post by Zarjaz:
The SASA is the bundle of 32 fibres E sides if such a thing existed on FTTP.

Each of the 32 goes to specific point/tray in the the head end at the exchange. If the fibre from the DP/CBT. has been misrouted to the wrong SASA then upon activation the ONT serial number input will never be seen by the head end and the whole thing just will not come into service.

PITA but sadly it does happen.

Yeah, that sort of happened with our install, all fibres from the exchange right up to where it goes into our splitter node was all fine.

Sadly all the fibres in our splitter node to all our DP's were in the wrong trays, so they didn't match what the system said.

So this was flagged as a build issue where we all had a TAG put on our lines / addresses.

It took a further 2 or so weeks to get the fibres all done correctly then the tag was removed and we was able to progress.

5m is the shortest of the kits.

You are supposed to have 2m slack wound into the CSP.

Yeah, maybe, I haven't looked in the CSP when it was done due to it was cold outside, I was referring to the length I can see of the fibre cable from the ONT to the CSP.

Is that 2m slack for just in case they need to re-join the fibres later on?

Also wouldn't part of that 2m slack be part of the blown fibre due to there was a fair bit of that wrapped in the tray before the internal work was done, I did take a look inside then.

Yep, slack for future resplicing etc.

2m of blown and 2m of the fibre from the ONTE.

So, a new ONT will be connected directly to a CBT. The CBT is run off from a splitter.

This is just a question, if there is no CBT (yet) but only a splitter, will the engineer able to connect by directly connecting an ONT to the fibre splitter (or does it always needs to go through a CBT?).

Are you 100% that it will be connectorised installation ?

No CBT, no install.

Yes. Sorry to confuse you. To give more detail, we are a site with many buildings. So we have requested to have a connection in a particular building 100 metres from the street. So what they did is the following:

Street Pole with Splitter A
|
|
Pole on our site
|
|
Underground box with splitter B (just next to the pole)
|
|
Underground box 100 metres away with a Splitter C + CBT

So, yes, we will connect to this CBT. My question was about Splitter B, the reason is that in the future we want to pull a connection from there to another place on our site. So, I understand that we will need a CBT coming of splitter B. Is that something that a survey visit in the future will notice that, or do you think we have to pay extra for such an install?

They arent all splitters ... though without seeing the contents or node IDs cant exactly say whats what.

Yep, a survey should identify the best way to feed a new CBT.

I thought so, I know I say the long fibre that was blown, that could of been 2m in length, but like I said I didn't see the fibre cable when they did the internal work, but I will take your word for it tongue

Yeah that got me confused with ours a while back, but our Splitter is in a roundish enclosure located at the bottom of our road.
Where as our DP's are located in the chambers by each pole which was in a squareish enclosure.

But I think you said I had the older hardware, which is probably true due to ours has been sitting there since 2011 - 2012 tongue

Ok, more thoughts. Sorry.

We are a site with multiple buildings. Our original copper linesss (yes a few) comes to our site to building A (this route is passes 2 buildings and is seriously long, perhaps 100+ metres). At the street level where those copper lines come from, there is also a CBT installed. The CBT I have mentioned that is specially installed on our site is at building B. In the BT openreach database (not sure what the right term is), there is not distinction made, we only have the house name + address of the site.

A) So when I ordered the FTTP on our address, how would Openreach know in their survey which way I would like them to connect? (If I want it on building A, it will require the engineer a cherry picker to install cables following 2 buildings, if I want it on Building B it only takes 4 metres of fibre underground into the house).
B) is there a better way to make a distinction? Because we just finished this FTTP install in our street, should I inform openreach to label the CBT at building B as a seperate building in their database? What do they do on sites with multiple buildings?
