FTTP Morningside; duration from in-scope to taking orders.

I have recently moved to the Morningside area and unfortunately do not have access to fibre at the moment. When I check Openreach, it states that the property is in scope along with the following information:

Exchange name: Edinburgh Morningside
Exchange status: Fibre enabled
Cabinet number: -
Technology: Pending - EO Line

I was hoping to see if there was a timeline as to when fibre is to be rolled out to the property as right now, average download speeds according to some ISPs are 10Mbps. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank-you.

You mention FTTP why do you think it will get FTTP rather than say FTTC or might get a roll-out from someone like Virgin Media?

I only mention it as it is what Openreach states:

"Your area is currently in our plans to be upgraded with Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), however we follow a different design and build process for FTTP so you won't see updates at each stage. Once the engineering work is completed there is a commissioning period of up to eight weeks before an order can be placed. When you are able to place an order you will see the Accepting Orders message."

I would welcome any type of fibre solution haha. Just would love an upgrade over current services.

Okay had to ask as FTTP is very location specific, i.e. other areas with EO on the exchange may not see FTTP

In terms of timeline nothing can be said at this time, so it could be 3 months or could be 2 years.

Best estimates come from observing what is actually happening on the local streets.

Thank you for your replies. I have an additional question. I have noticed that flats xf2, regardless of their floor have access to fibre; including my neighbour in the same building. I was curious as to how they have fibre through FTTC, but no other flats xf1 or xf3 have access. I don�t know if this is something you can answer, but I found it quite odd. Thank-you again.

NOTE: Blocks of flats can have different postcodes and can even have some premises served by one cabinet and others by another. Other variations can be mixed use buildings where maybe business floors were converted to residential at a later date.

Tenement flats in Edinburgh are generally numbered 1F1, 1F2, 2F1, etc., where 1F2 means 1st floor, flat 2 (counting in the order the front door is passed from the communal stairwell). It is great for address entry on systems that have been coded to expect flat number as an integer!

They will almost certainly be purely residential flats that share the main entrance door to the street and have the same postcode.

I'm somewhat interested to find out what is potentially happening here too as my in laws live pretty close to Morningside and it is always a chore to suffer the 4Mb ADSL when we visit!

And as with the FTTP puzzle the answer lies in that there are many possibilities and only one looking at the specific property is one able to gain any particular idea

Are the flat 2's all over on the same side of the building (ie one on top of the other)? Maybe that has something to do with it in the way the flat block is designed? Or perhaps it is just a database error at BT in which case speak to the ISP to get it looked at.
