Re: Gigaclear not interested in connecting us

Have you spoken to Voneus about fixed wireless? They are partnered with Gigaclear to provide wireless broadband to people that are close to Gigaclear networks - from the Gigaclear website:

Where Gigaclear is not available we can provide quick to deploy Voneus Superfast Broadband services offering speeds in the range 35-50Mbps with an upgrade path to Ultrafast Broadband when Gigaclear services become available.

I'm in an area that should have Gigaclear FTTP within a couple of years but unfortunately Voneus aren't able to offer anything until Gigaclear get here. With Gigaclear already being so close to you maybe they can help you.

Truespeed are currently trying to get support for installations in my part of (very) rural Somerset. They're popping up at the pub, once-weekly Post Office outreach session, etc. Again, they are looking to get 30% expressions of interest before they commit to us (maybe 400 homes), also offering free connections for the school and 2 community halls.

I had not been able to work out their way of getting fibre to the home (FTTP), but they explained that they have done a deal with Western Power (who run the electricity supplies round here) to use their pole network which does reach pretty well every house and farm. Clever stuff. No digging. (We don't have pavements round here anyway, but I can see why overhead is cheaper and simpler than underground - with sufficient respect to safety and risk of failure if the wind blows down a tree on a pole. But then if the mains fails, most of us would be off-line anyway)
