Another confused.com

So whilst so wait for the BDUKs response from the recent FTTP conundrum in my area (due in theory by tomorrow), another oddity....

Nearby PCP5, which has had a VDSL2 twin commercially deployed for some years, and which Codelook has been reporting is due an upgrade by early 2019 (presumably it's been at capacity though I've not seen it listed as waiting list)... now has roadworks listed for a couple of weeks time for an "All In One Street Cabinet and Power Installation ". Errm?? Is it standard practice (in particular circumstances) to upgrade or swap a PCP + VDSL2 to/with an AIO.... or must it be a mistake in the wording of the roadworks (which they'd probably follow through with and actually installl until they go to commission it!)?

Never heard of a PCP with VDSL2 being replaced by an all in one, so if expansion is needing another VDSL2 cab then most likely just a bad set of wording

Are there any recent or upcoming decent-sized housing developments around there? If so it could simply be that PCP5 itself is full so adding an AIO could make sense for OR.

If not, I pass smile.

They've just started a 50-property development not too far away, yes (the first 10 or so sets of foundations are in, that's currently about it), but I'd be surprised if they weren't FTTP, and they're going to be 600m+ away from the new cabinet. So they could do a lot better by putting the AIO adjacent if it were for that.

As ever, will watch what happens (or not) with interest....

That's not impossible, as it could also add capacity if PCP5 or it's FTTC twin is a bit full. I get around 70Mbps connection at 600m.

It will depend what the developer is putting in for OR cabling. If just phone lines then it will be FTTC.
