BT will upgrade you to fibre at any time if/when fibre shows available. I will just be a new 18 month contract.

Hi all,

Just thought I would post an update in case anyone else in a similar situation stumbles across this thread in the future.

After conversing with someone at OpenReach they have updated the database records regarding our property's distance from the cabinet. Consequently when looking on dslchecker.bt.com I can now see VDSL and G.fast lines for my address (though they are "Waiting list" and "Amber" respectively).

So now it''s a waiting game of when cabinet space becomes available - in the mean time we've signed up to SSE ADSL as they seem to be the only people offering a rolling 1 month contract.

The long and short is: Openreach originally had the property down as not eligible for fibre based on distance from the cabinet! This caused all the headaches with ISPs (as they said we couldn't get fibre based on Openrach data) and only Openreach updating their database has solved the problem.

Credit where credit is due, Openreach were very helpful and quick to look into it once I got in touch with them, but I can only imagine that most people who find themselves in this situation wouldn't have pursued it as far as I did and thus be stuck on ADSL. I only hope this is not a common occurrence.

Thanks for all the help offered here, much appreciated.

Thanks for updating the thread.

Regarding your part in bold
Openreach originally had the property down as not eligible for fibre based on distance from the cabinet!

That's the default message the OpenReach site gives when you are connected to a fibre enabled cabinet but the database thinks you can't order.

Glad you managed to get it resolved. Keep an eye on the BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker for the cabinet showing as available. If someone cancels their service the checker will change to available for a short period of time until someone orders and the port is reserved for them.

So it's worth checking everyday!
