Dropped packets will not usually cause the DLM to react.

The DLM cares nothing about your TCPIP and ping packets, it is looking at the data for underlying xDSL connection.

The fact that changing firmware changed the effect points to what others have said the Fritzbox is behaving in a quirky manner with regard to the pingbox traffic
