Community funded FTTP

We�re about to sign an Openreach community contract to deploy a full fibre network where I live. We are aware of the deployment costs but unsure about connection charges and monthly costs by the broadband providers. Openreach have been a bit vague.....
Can anyone confirm what they paid for install and monthly recurring costs for a 150mb or 300mb option on a Community funded project? Will it be the same as other FTTP deployments by Openreach or do community projects have a different pricing structure?
I also can�t find FTTP pricing from anyone other than BT. Do Sky, Vodafone or anyone else offer FTTP packages? If not, I presume it�s just a matter of time, if so, does anyone know when this will likely happen?

You'll pay what everyone else does as far as the product charges go - this money isn't going to Openreach directly and the part you've paid covers the gap between deploying the FTTP to you and what Openreach would've spent commercially so there's no benefit to them and they won't charge the providers less.

Zen also provide FTTP as do some smaller providers. TalkTalk and Sky FTTP should be coming later this year, No idea about Vodafone but the same timeframe is realistic.

I expect they would and should be - they do not supply the service over their infrastructure, that is the ISP and Openreach cannot favour any ISP over another.

Zen is slightly cheaper than BT for 150Mbps if you don't want a phone line at £50pm - for 300Mbps they charge £60 which is the same as BT with a phone line. BT usually have cashback offers available which reduces the effective monthly price.

Thanks all. Makes me feel better about the situation. We have 12 months once the service goes live to have the residents signed up to an FTTP product. So realistically it'll take Openreach between 9-12 months to deploy the fibre and gives us up to 2 years from now to sign up. Hopefully by then, the likes of Sky and Vodafone, TalkTalk etc are offering FTTP products.

We're using government issued gigabit vouchers to pay for the entire project (we're not paying a thing) so in order to comply with the Openreach & government scheme we have to have a certain number of residents to sign up within 12 months of the service going live.

I am starting a similar OCF project in my area for 35 properties and Openreach have just reduced the cost from £56K to £20K so it can nearly all be covered by the vouchers.

You mentioned your entire project would be funded by vouchers. Practically speaking did you have to pay Openreach any upfront costs and then claim back the money with the vouchers or did Openreach accept the vouchers as payment?

Also I understand from a conversation with Openreach on Friday that they now terminate the FTTP at a DP on the pavement rather than at the property. The ISP is then responsible for the installation from the DP to the property. Does anyone have any experience of what the likely install cost is from an ISP if they have to dig up the drive to lay the fibre to the house. Openreach implied that the large ISP's e.g. BT and Sky from September would absorb this cost. Is this likely to be the case?

My assumption was that once the voucher is issued, it is only valid for twelve months to go towards the install cost, which would/should have already been settled.

That's not the best explanation of how it works. The ISP isn't responsible for the final installation, they are simply charged by OpenReach for it when they place an order on your behalf.

OpenReach will install fibre as far as the DP (either pole top or underground chamber).

If/when you place an order with any ISP there is an activation charge, like with almost all broadband services.
OpenReach then come back and run the fibre from the DP to your home.

OpenReach charge the ISP £97+ VAT (roughly) for the final install.
The ISP can charge that to you or absorb it.
There's no concrete answer on if they do or don't pass on this charge as offers vary continuously.
ISP's with longer contract lengths are more likely to absorb this.

To give some context on that pricing, OpenReach can charge the ISP around £45 + VAT for standard FTTC install (no tests in the home) and around double that for a "managed install".
