You should have a pod on your cabinet as its showing as live, but that postcode is too far from the pod to get a G.fast service, hence not showing for you

I take it you haven't got full fibre?
No I haven't, I suspect your broadband speed is considerable better than mine and a lot of others on this forum (based on my assumption you're getting around 18mbps download).

If I wanted full fibre badly enough I would put my hand in my pocket and pay for it via Fttpod

Yep well worth getting a desktop FTTPoD quote from Cerberus or others. However to get an accurate FTTPoD price you may need to get a site survey done (£200+ cost) as one of my neighbours was quoted £17k (desktop survey price) for FTTPoD...despite being approx 20m away from the fibre DP used for my FTTPoD install in 2017. According to the Openreach bod who did my fibre CSP, a 2 port DP was installed so it should have a free port.

Out of interest, did they proceed, and if so, what did it cost?

I wouldn't have thought Openreach would connect a property to a DP which wasn't planned to serve it (otherwise that property would already be marked in the database as being able to take WBC FTTP). But with luck it wouldn't be very expensive to install another DP, and run a fibre cable back to the same splitter that serves the first DP.

To the OP: after you've got your free desktop quote, proceeding with FTTPoD will cost you £250+VAT up-front, and only then will you get your surveyed accurate costing, which you can accept within 30 days or decline (but if you decline, you lose the £250+VAT).

On top of the FTTPoD cost, there's also a hidden cost in that for the first 12 months you'll be paying a higher monthly rental: from Cerberus it's £100+VAT per month for 330/30, which is the only FTTPoD speed they sell.

After 12 months you can regrade to a standard 330/50 FTTP service from them, which will be cheaper, or a slower speed (cheaper again) - or change to a completely different ISP.

No, the neighbour didn't take things further as he didn't want to to risk losing £250 just to find out the true cost for FTTPoD. He's getting the full 80/20 sync on FTTC anyway. I've told him if/when Openreach decide to upgrade our street to FTTP it might just be a case of Openreach upgrading the 2 port DP to a 8/16/32 port DP so the whole street can order FTTP. So I think he's holding out for 'free' FTTP smile

Does anybody have an update on when Birstall exchange cabinet 8 may be getting an upgrade to offer anything other than ADSL.

I am so surprised that an area with over 15,000 residents still has not got any FTTC and are stuck with ADSL unless they want VM whom unsurprisingly are massively over subscribed in this area with constant poor speeds.

The BT wholesale checker has shown FTTC as planned for well over 18 months but still no sign of the FTTC cabinets going along with nothing showing on Roadworks website appears nothing soon. The local MP was told 2years ago that FTTC was coming soon but still nothing and Superfast Leicestershire dont want to know as Virgin is available

I'm not sure where you are getting your info. I'm assuming the 15,000 you mention is the entire exchange.

Only cabinets 1, 3, 8 and 10 don't have FTTC.
Cabinets 2,4,5,6,7,9,11 and 12 all have FTTC.

In reply to previous comment the 15,000 is from the size of Birstall population, I am not aware of any active cabinets on the Gates estate area and most of the estate on the same side as the exchange.

This was something that was discussed at a council meeting only in June and Openreach promised to investigate but have yet to provide any more updates when FTTC would be available.

When these cabinets do eventually get done will they just be. FTTC or will they add G Fast for the applicable lines ?

You can check out what's available to each address on the codelook site.

https://www.telecom-tariffs.co.uk/codelook.htm?xid=5...

Clicking each cabinet shows you what area they cover.
