FTTP available here?

[link to this post]

Very surprised to see on the ADSL checker (https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/) that FTTP on demand is available for my line at 330/30. This is odd, because there's no indication on the Openreach Fibre First web site (https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/fibre-first) or anywhere else that FTTP is available here or anywhere near here.

Any thoughts, anyone?

(This is Wandsworth exchange, cabinet 42).

FTTP On Demand is an expensive, build-to-order product. It's available everywhere that FTTC is available, so your checker results are expected.

Build costs for FTTPoD vary from about £2,000 to £25,000+, with something like £8,000(+VAT) being typical.

There are several FTTPoD threads on this forum if you want to find out more.

Is it still the case that FTTPoD is only available if you are connected to a FTTC cabinet (even though FTTC and FTTPoD are unrelated)? When I asked about FTTPoD (some time ago) I was told it wasn't available as I'm on an EO line, and you have to be connected to a cabinet before you can order FTTPoD.

"Fibre to the Premises on Demand enables ... for your customers who are within a Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) exchange area and are served by a FTTC enabled cabinet."

Maybe it's just a coarse way of ensuring that all FTTPoD requests are *somewhere* close to the fibre footprint. It does seem unfair to exclude EO users though.

Flats (MDUs) are also excluded.

FTTPoD installation connects to your nearest aggregation node which also serves FTTC cabinets so if there are no cabinets then there won't be an aggregation node to connect to.

Not always.

There's many cases of EO lines that are within reach of an Agg Node and even cases where EO lines are right next door to properties served by an FTTC cabinet.
Probably EO lines that are a stone throw away from an Agg Node.

There's no technical/logistical reason why FTTPoD can't be delivered to an EO line.
The existing line and PCP aren't touched for FTTP.

It just appears to be the simplest way to offer FTTPoD to every property covered by an Agg Node while excluding rural/unviable properties.

It's a very crude method of doing it and it excludes a fair few EO line properties that are very much within reach of an Agg Node.

OpenReach records aren't great at the best of times. It might be quite a challenge to make FTTPoD available to specific EO lines while excluding others so they went with the easy option of mandating a line must be served by an FTTC cabinet.

Thank you, I hadn't realised the implication of the "On Demand" part. I won't be doing that, then wink

There are two FTTC cabinets serving my local village (nearest is just outside the exchange a mile from my house), but I was told the nearest agg node was 11 miles away (BT Business also wouldn't quote for a leased line due to the cost being obviously ludicrous even without a survey). However, they did offer to bond ADSL Max lines (for about the same price as a leased line).

Leased lines use a different network architecture and don't come from an Aggregation Node.

BT Business might not have wanted to quote for a leased line but others might.

Yes I know the leased lines come from a different point - but unfortunately equally remote. And yes, I did get a ball-park quote from another company too - which is why I'm using 4G now!
