I have order VM M200 to have 200 Meg down and 20 Meg up and it got black friday deal £30 a month and even better no more FTTC DLM to worry as G.fast do have DLM as well.

Maybe we could start a sweepstakes for how many days it is before this order is cancelled.

Surely more a question of whether it has even been ordered? smile

That's true: although with cable networks what you can get instead is extreme congestion, where potentially hundreds of people are using one shared link.

However I have to admit: persuading all your neighbours to buy G.Fast, and then taking VM yourself, is a pretty good way to reduce congestion on your own service smile

If I had the option of VM when FTTC was the only other option I would have snapped them up years ago.

You have your own gigabit port from DSLAM to OLT at head end, then your own Cablelink from OLT, own link from CP equipment the Cablelink connects to to....? You get the idea.

VM resolved most of their problems a while ago. Must be BT Wholesale's turn on the capacity-a-round again next.

Building better networks, not just faster ones.

Hi Carl

Are you saying you believe VM backhaul is less congested than Openreach FTTP backhaul.

I didn't say anything about backhaul being congested at all.

Building better networks, not just faster ones.

I'm on FTTP, and I know that the GPON 2.4G down and 1.2G up is shared between no more than 32 users. For FTTC, OR has a good incentive to keep the DSLAM uplink uncongested, since it charges its customers for interconnect bandwidth.

With DOCSIS3.0 I believe it's 1.2G down and 200M up, shared by an indeterminate number. I do know several people who have experienced extreme congestion on VM, like getting well under 10M download at peak times.

As for cablelink and further up, backhaul is backhaul: it could be under-provisioned or over-provisioned in VM's network or anyone else's network. But at least with an OR-based service I have the option of switching to another ISP who has better capacity.
