Right, can see the picture now.

Not animal damage, good old fashioned age.

1 leg dis on the UG feed.

Check for no dial tone, if so, report to your voice service provider.

Cable remade (insulating tape?) but still unsecured and open to damage, as I said initially.

Line re-established, and BB running from when Openreach visited, but is this connection method acceptable? Don't want it to fail again. Whatever the cause.

Too be honest I've seen a lot worse, not sure what Openreach can really do unless there is some slack on the UG feed which is unlikely. If you're really concerned why don't you build a small protective cover around it.

Maybe relocate the box lower on the wall assuming there is enough slack in the lead in cables

Yes. Thought struck me too. The initial connection was remade 5 years ago, to reroute away from the hall and via the front wall into the re-furbished "study". I think the junction box was slightly lower then.

Lower and refix the 66, cut back on the UG feed ..... a tickle of a job.

Well then, an easy one for Openreach to do. If I bodge (no expertise in such matters!) they will laugh themselves silly when giving me the bill. Talking of which: one of hundreds of jackdaws resident nearby:https://photos.app.goo.gl/gmyeshU3WT1wLgcy8

I did rather wonder who did this work:

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.
