Re: First post! How should a FTTC copper cable be terminated

Hmmm.

You mean the original move, or the fix on 5 December? That doesn't look like OR work to me. Perhaps Kelly's or Quinn's. (In case you haven't heard of those, they are contractors used by Openreach and dreadful bodgers).

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

Glad someone else thinks it's a bodge. The first photo I sent was the remains of the installation put in 5 years ago by an entity with the Openreach logo. No idea whether it was subbed, but that makes sense. As for the photo I'll attach to this post, this sticking plaster job was done when I was out. Because they made no appointment.

I'm informed by UW today that an Openreach "engineer" will attend in the next 48 hours to examine this joint. After some frank description was made of this arrangement. Only my opinion, but it seems poor to me. Will keep you posted, if you can bear the suspensesmile

It is *sometimes* possible, to cut and draw the cable through the thin black duct. It depends if this tubing is pinched by the ground around it.

I was hoping that something like that might be possible. The duct from the cabinet is not far away from the house. I know because 5 years ago they had to empty it of water. Electricians are able to pull cables through, so presumably an OpenReach(or subbed) fitter can do the samesmile

Well blow me dow, but a cheerful OR guy (not subbie) arrived at lunchtime. New box fitted, relocated down to the now-shortened black rubber duct, cables into box, snap-locked, job done. Speed as normal since the original fault (18Mbps down) Took half an hour. Thanks for the interest and comments!

Not sure how right it is, but it looks more robust to me. Cable, from black tube below, seems held in place at the entry point to the BT box.
