Re: Any Trooli FTTP feedback?

However, whether the OP *takes* the Trooli service or not won't make a difference to whether Openreach makes their FTTP service available there or not. In other words, they won't skip individual houses just because they have active Trooli connections (even if they could tell).

Indeed, but Openreach may not think it economic to provide FTTP in an area where there is another FTTP operator. I have Gigaclear not far from the proposed Trooli network. My landline is connected to the Seal exchange which is one of the exchanges in the list announced last October or so. The Openreach website postcode checker says I shoould get their FTTP and I even have an email from them saying that I would get FTTP in December 2019. In practice all the FTTP from the Seal exchange appears to be north of the A25. There is none south of the A25 which is where the Gigaclear network is. Of course this may change in the future!

I jumped to the opposite view and assumed BT were installing just because another operator was setting up smile

I suppose I don't really know until I can place an order but Openreach did pull their fibre past my house a couple of weeks before Trooli pulled their own fibre and the 'fibre first' website says my specific address will have FTTP available soon.

The stand out negatives for me so far are having to use their router and no fixed IP address on the residential packages. Neither are deal breakers though.

I have to use my Gigaclear router as it contains the ONT which connects to the fibre. The box can be put into bridge mode if I want to use a separate router. I don't pay for a fixed IP address, but it has rarely changed, even in power cuts or other outages, unlike a DSL connection. The IP address has been the same since September 2017.

My Gigaclear connection comes to a pot on the corner of my property, I was able to choose the exact position. I then ran a fibre cable to my router myself. Most people pay to have this work done. These days the cost would probably be upwards of £100 depending on the difficulty.

Does the Openreach website say that they will connect you?

Nope.
