FTTP Install - Does the ONT replace the Master Socket ?

As per the subject, is the Master Socket combined into the ONT or does the Master Socket remain ?

The master socket is not used the fibre cable connects directly to the ONT, my ONT is in my office and the old master socket is in the hallway of the house.

Just to add: originally ONTs also provided an analogue voice port (called "FVA"). However those are no longer being used.

From now on, the provided voice service (if any) is the responsibility of the router, which will do voice over IP. If you have existing phone extension wiring that you wish to keep using, you'll need to connect it to the router.

Whatever happens, they will both remain on the wall.

As for whether the phone master socket remains active, that depends on what service provider you're buying from, and what service you're buying.

In my case: I bought FTTP from Cerberus (data only). I kept my copper phone line and FTTC service from Plusnet, and they were unchanged.

If you buy FTTP from BT, then I *think* these days they will transfer your voice number onto the telephony port on the smart hub, in which case the master socket will no longer be used - but they *could* leave your voice service on the copper. People who have taken the service from them will be able to advise you better.

I have had mine since October and then they just left in the master socket so the phone is still a standard landline - but BT change practices all the time so they may no longer be doing this.

Had BT FTTP installed 2 months ago, copper line remained as it is, they used underground feed which came out at front door (outside) and fibre cable then went its own way to the study outside wall then hole to inside where I have ONT installed.

Ah ok, yes it is BT that my service will be with. I guess I just need to wait and see what the engineer says on the day by the sounds of it.

If you signed up for the option with Digital Voice your copper will not be used. (AIUI effectively VOIP via your router). If you signed up for the standard voice the phone service will stay on PSTN via the copper.
