FTTP / FTTC Capability

[link to this post]

Hey.

We’re having a FTTC cabinet installed (Darley Dale 12) and I noticed they’re running a fibre optic cable of sort over the telegraph polls several miles from the exchange.

As this raw fibre is over the poll and not many houses away from mine can we get FoD to pick it up from here?

Picture; https://ibb.co/yYXDFph (sorry couldn’t upload from mobile)

FTTPoD would be fed from an aggregation node.

likely that the cab will be served from the same aggregation node as the FOD so you will probably have to run a spare fibre or adjected fibre depending on what they have dimensioned for the FTTC

the only way you will find out will be a get a quote for FOD but don't be surprised if it significant

That looks like WBC FTTP (ordinary fibre to the property ) That's what they are doing in our village smile
Not FTTP FOD (the expensive one £xxxx's).

If the fibre were to provide FTTP they would not be installing an FTTC cabinet.

Unless parts of the destination were to get FTTC and others FTTP. Which is theoretically possible, with the FTTC to be binned in the future.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, sites and mail hosting - Tsohost & Ionos.
Connection - Three B311 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up. 1+ 8 Pro max 80Mbps down, 24Mbps up.

What but of that photo looks like WBC FTTP?

What does the Openreach website say about FTTP and FTTC ..

Is the picture that you took, near to you, as in one or two poles away ?

Our South-Derbyshire village have had FTTC since 2018, but now they are installing FTTP as well.

I took the very same type of photo last Sunday in our village but they were too dark to put on the forum. !

One pole the fibre had fell off and was on the hedge and I had a look at the fibre cable, it was about 10mm Dia, round, black with a yellow line running down one edge.

So maybe your are going straight on to FTTP and No (Half Way House) FTTC.

Native FTTP and FTTPod are physically identical.
It's just the deployment and funding model are different
