Opened BT mastersocket plate, speed now dropped

[link to this post]

I have a problem with my phone, where it doesn't ring, so I went through the diagnostic steps they told me to do before I can call an engineer and one of those told me to undo the BT mastersocket (I have a fibre 2 socket one) faceplate and plug my phone directly in to the socket inside it. I did this. Then I put the faceplate back. I then noticed my net connection was down, within 3 minutes it was back again but I have lost 7mbps and it has connected at a slower speed. So instead of the line speed being 65mbps it is now 58 mbps since coming back online.

Why did opening the faceplate cause my net connection to cut out and then reconnect ? I didn't take out the modem wire which is plugged in to the top part, which didn't come away, only the lower phone part opened up.

Because if you did the above in less than 15 Minutes the DLM (Digital Line Management) thinks there is a fault and made adjustments, If you ever need to disconnect your equipment again wait more then say 20 minutes before you reconnect .

leave it alone for 3 days plus it will come back up.

To test your ring-back dial 17070 option 1 free call

You need to report it as a 'Phone Fault' if you are still having problems with it ringing.

Because disconnecting the lower part actually switches off the top socket, i.e. removes the affect of anything such as phone or modem connected to the line. The time for connection to come back is normal, i.e. sync time plus authentication time.

As for slower speed no guarantee that sync speed will always be the same, probably was just hanging onto the higher speed before with errors and now with a resync has picked a lower speed but with less errors.

Did you try a different phone before using the test socket? Did a phone subsequently ring from the test socket?
