Just noticed, the spell-checker didn't like "furthermore" 😕.

The reason for the title of this post is:- I already have a SF BB slot in Cab 12. Is that slot reserved to the existing provider namely Voda? Why can’t it be transferred in situ to Sky? Is the thrust of the post TBH

Migrations have traditionally needed there to be a spare port available in the cabinet

Not 100% certain but was chatter that this had changed at some point.

Nothing to do with a port being reserved for Vodafone, but more about ensuring all providers are treated 100% equally.

Well out of the blue I get a landline call from BT sales saying that they can provide me with SF broadband. Wouldn’t have to do anything Openreach apparently say that BT could take over the line in-situ.

My response was that I am not mad enough to pay £10 pm more just because I hate Voda.

I have grave doubts that it was from BT.

It could also be due to the Ofcom rules that ISP's must now give an acurate measurement of peak time speeds.

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom/latest/media/me...

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-interne...

"You should get the estimated speed you are likely to experience at busy times of the day, when average speeds are often lower. These times are 8-10pm for home services, and 12-2pm for business services."

The 30 day minimum speed rule allows customers to leave without charge. So I guess most only want to offer packages they know they can manage during peak times right now.

"The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) sets rules about how companies advertise broadband speeds. They must show the average speed that at least 50% of their customers receive at the network’s busiest time (8-10pm)."

My guess is they are getting new customers on lower packages to reduce congestion at peak times to manage those minimum speeds and they can't advertise an 80mb package if only 40% of customers in your area actually get 80mb.
