Ok, stupid question... if I ordered a 2nd line, where are the spare pairs likely to come from? Same cable route?

Almost certainly the same cable and PCP. You could even find that you already have a second unused pair which just needs to be connected.

No G.fast because your line cable routing is too far away from the G.fast pod. As G.fast work best at 200m or less!

But I'm pretty sure I've been living with a line fault for ages. OR engineer is due out on Tuesday.

I see you're comparing your line with other streets; what about your direct neighbours properties? That'll make it more obvious if you've a line fault or its a longer cable routing that's the issue. While your line is connected to a G.Fast enabled cabinet the the checker won't show availability if the line quality or attenuation is beyond a certain limit

Just checked against the flat next door:

VDSL Range A (Clean) 67.4 50.7 20 17 45.9 Waiting list Waiting list
VDSL Range B (Impacted) 65.8 47.1 20 15 40 Waiting list Waiting list

So they can get around 67Mbps down/20Mbps up compared with my 38Mbps down/10Mbps up

Could it be that your current service is provided as a 40/10 ?

Could you post your full line stats please ? Attenuation, SNR, max attainable etc etc.

And dare I ask, what is your current set up, you are in the NTE with no extension wiring attached aren’t you ?

It's Vodafone Superfast 2, so it's supposed to be the full whack. It was up at around 60/10 a long time ago. Since then it's just whittled away alongside the max attainable.

Now I'm stuck on interleaved and have been for I-don't-know-how-long, possibly months. I purchased a Zyxel XMG3927-B50A, which arrived yesterday, to see if that would help, so that's now connected.

I have had an Openreach NTE5c MK4 for a number of years. There is no extension wiring - I made sure of that.

Full stats here

I connected the new router at 3pm yesterday. At 4:30pm the SNR Margin began to plummet and has hovered around 2.5db since. The new router gives me access to all this info with DSLstats, whereas before it was limited with the Vodafone hub, so I don't know if this has been a regular occurrence.

Did you have the old black Vodafone router with the rounded edges, or the newer rectangular one? I've seen reports that the first routers had terrible modems in and would cause DLM to intervene and reduce rates until they were replaced.

Sorry, I cannot read the figures in your link, enlarging it to a readable size makes it blurry, and unreadable.
