There has definitely been an increase in "work's vans" (including Openreach!) parked/stored around residential areas over the past few years - I suspect some bean-counter has seen some kind of cost saving in having people take their van home at night rather than travelling to a base each morning to pick it up. This particular van is branded up with the name of a big national company (PHS Group).

It is a pain for everyone else, though - a lot of people don't have enough parking, and neighbourhoods are littered with the [censored] things.

Though I suppose lots of people take buses or trains home.

If that is simplistic, knee jerk legislation, that could have an impact on jobs.

Very old, narrow streets, nowhere else to park except half on the pavement. There is no car parking anywhere for the houses, yet since mid 1990s most people need a vehicle of some sort to get to work (way outside town, not on bus routes etc).

Legislation needs to be adaptive, in that example, then one side of the road should be prevented from parking on, allowing pavement access, and the other side should be marked out in bays.

Then the parking can be managed, rather than free for all.

It is illegal to park on the pavement, and should be reported to your local police, not only is it illegal but very inconvenient for disabled people in wheelchairs, mothers with prams etc.etc.

In very bold type but unfortunately wrong.

It is illegal to park on the pavement in the 32 London Boroughs and the City of London (Greater London (General Purposes) Act 1974) unless there is signage specifically allowing it. In the rest of the UK, parking on the pavement is not banned unless the Local Authority has made a Traffic Regulation Order to proscribe it. The Police or Civil Enforcement Officers may take action in the event of causing an obstruction if there is no TRO but obstruction is not defined in law.

I came across some overhead works recently in the YO10 4** area, the contractors vans had FibreNation branding. Some streets actually have a mix of regular toby boxes in the footway and pole-mounted fibre DPs.

The initial works appeared to involve digging a trench and leaving a loop of fibre on the poles, a week or so later that fibre had been terminated in a DP at the top of the pole.

Some of the poles are getting quite busy with copper DP, Openreach BFT manifolds, Openreach CBTs, UFO/FibreNation DP at the top. As some feed 20+ properties do UFO/FibreNation have to remove Openreach OH feeds when a customer switches (or Openreach remove the UFO/FibreNation OH feed when a customer switches back) to keep within the loading limits on the pole?

Surely if there's works to be done there's usually barriers/cones or something put up to advise people not to park there?

Telegraph poles need accessed all the time, sometimes at a few hours notice.
To do what you suggest you would need to cone them off permanently.
