Originally the requirement of a line being connected to an FTTC enabled cabinet was a quick and nasty way of determining which lines had an Aggregation Node "nearby" (though not necessarily all that near).

Considering the original distance bands went as high as 8000m+ (band K) it has always been a fairly crude way of excluding EO lines that might be many many miles from an Agg Node.

There have been posts over the years from EO lines surrounded by FTTC lines and very close to an Agg Node but excluded from ordering FTTPoD.

With the introduction of Desktop quotes they should have allowed EO lines to request a quote and then make a decision based on that whether they can order.

I wouldn't disagree with this, as you say a property served by a FTTC enabled cabinet doesn't mean they are necessarily closer to an aggregation node than an EO property. Everyone should have the option to get a FTTPoD quote even if EO properties had to pay an admin fee for it to discourage time wasters.

I had one similar to DECTs comments, several (maybe 6, 7, 8) years back, and miles to FTTC cabinet. FTTC was not shown but FTTPoD was there. Eventually with some arm twisting A&A had a VDSL installation completed with, initially just over 2Mbps. FTTPoD could have been done - the nearest node is under 1/2 mile, through a forest, but the line comes from a totally different direction so which would they have taken? No longer relevant as a fibre company has passed teh door and soon a 1Gb service should be available

This could all be answered waiting for the OP to post their BT Wholesale checker results.

Chances are they're not on an EO line, so they'll be able to get an FTTPoD quote. If so:

1. they can get a free desktop quote; this usually takes about a week

2. they can then pay £250+VAT which triggers a survey, and get a confirmed quote, which could be substantially lower or higher than the desktop quote. Then they have 30 days either to pay the balance to complete the order, or drop out and lose the £250+VAT.

There's no guarantee on installation time either. Likely to be 6-12 months, but up to 18 months is not unknown.
