Re: Help getting FTTP...

Hi Candlerb,

thanks so much for your detailed reply... very helpful...

I’ve checked on BTWholesale Checker and it says that i can only get 330/30 on FTTPod, but Ive checked and my cabinet is running huawei, not ECI equipment.
Wonder why this is?

Ive decided to give Cerberus a go and booked a site survey to push further on, I’m just very very hopeful that i can get the full 1gbps...

Checked the bt wholesale checker and I’m hopeful it isn’t entirely accurate as it says just 330 for me on fttpod... what does yours say? 1000 I’m assuming... my cabinet has not got eci equipment so should theoretically not be limited...

Originally FTTPoD was only 330/30. But when they changed the product to allow up to 1000/220 a few years back, they didn't per form an update of tens of millions of database records.

Therefore "FTTPoD" will say either 330/30 or 1000/220, depending on when the database record was last touched for some other reason. Whether you see one or the other doesn't mean anything in terms of what service is available.

When I had my FTTPoD installed, my adjacent neighbours also got WBC FTTP, but the rest of the street was updated to show FTTPoD 1000/220. It's just that the survey had updated the records for the whole street, reflecting the area that *could* be served by the new splitter.

It has nothing to do with the Vendor of the street cabinet (DSLAM).

The limitation comes from ECI OLT's in the exchange.

You can be connected to a Huawei street cabinet but FTTP comes from an ECI OLT, and vice versa.

ECI hardware is only 1 part of the reason why 330 shows instead of 1000.
The main reason is simply a database issue.
Every line showed 330 at 1 point.

There is a theory that is a lines records have not been touched since the 330 maximum days it will still show 330.

Why Openreach has not touched every record to force an update no idea, hence why preface above with theory.

Hm okay, i guess there’s no way to check why OLT unit there is in the exchange then... just have to see or maybe I’ll have some luck asking the open reach person when he’s here to give to site survey.

What telephone exchange area are you in?

Edit: Just read back some of your posts and you say your FTTC DSLAM is Huawei so a Huawei OLT does exist in your headend exchange. I personally can't believe they would hook you up to an old ECI OLT (if one exists), not saying that it would be impossible but unlikely, most new fttp infrastructure deployments appear to be put on Huawei or Nokia where available.
