In that particular case he’s renting it out as an HMO so probably just shot himself in the foot!

Although, no doubt, he’d get away with just ordering and looking blank when asked where the ONT has gone.

Thanks for the reply.

It's super fast from sky who require openreach engineer to provide the service.

Behind that wall is the downstairs toilet. I've had a nose in there but can't see much.

Talking to the help line they said there has to be an ONT for superfast to work. Which I'm not sure about. Depends if there was a coax I suppose but I presume that BT66B is twisted pairs?

Coax? What this isn't Virgin Media where talking...

If its Sky Superfast you've ordered that comes in via the copper pair, not fibre direct to your home (FTTP). Sky Ultrafast is their FTTP offering

No idea what the previous owner has done with it.

From the order and from sky the open reach engineer needs to know if the lights are on the ont. Which I can't confirm as I can't find the [censored] thing.

OK - sounds like they are talking about the FTTP ONT, I’d just explain to the engineer that you’ve just moved in and think the ONT has been removed by the previous occupier. I would have thought the Openreach engineer should be able to determine the ONT isn’t active remotely.

Is there any sign of the internal fibre cable on the inside wall from the external brown splice box? If it was there it should have a green plug on the end of it (that should be plugged into the ONT).

The previous owner said the Internet was really slow.
Just throwing this out there, above doesn't sound like the previous owner was using FTTP.

That would seem to be an odd place to put the splice box. Could the toilet have been a recent addition? Might have removed all the internal cabling and ONT.

Have you checked on the DSL checker to see what is says about your property (either search by line/phone number or do an address based search)?

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

If your place IS actually enabled for FTTP and the ONT is/was installed - then in the blurb below the line stats it should say:

"ONT exists with active service..XXXX...A new ONT may be ordered."

Edit:
- If FTTP has not actually been installed at the property, then the line above would read:

"FTTP is available and a new ONT may be ordered."

Thanks. Did an address lookup as I don't have a phone to plug in to socket.

The premise/line is associated with exchange which is NOT part of current fibre priority programme.

The premise/line is associated with exchange where WLR is not withdrawn.

The premise/line is associated with exchange where SOADSL service is restricted.

Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Proven Clear.

FTTP is available and a new ONT may be ordered.

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

OK well that clarifies it. There’s no point looking for an ONT, because you don’t have one installed wink

This also explains why the previous occupier said their broadband was slow as they were using the copper pair for service and not FTTP.

Go back to Sky and explain, and they should sort it with Openreach as part of you ordering the service.

That shouldn't be necessary as Sky have already identified that an engineer visit is required to provide service (which they wouldn't need to if there was a working ONT). However if they add a note for the engineer it won't do any harm.

Re. superfast/ultrafast: both are available over FTTP from Sky - you can take 80M or 150M. These days, I believe if you order superfast and your property has both copper and fibre available, then they'll provide service over the fibre.
