Indeed hopefully he’s good for when Openreach turn up, and the Sky help line telling him to look for an ONT (when there isn’t one) was a simple misunderstanding by the call centre folks. If it was me I’d call them and get it noted so that it hopefully doesn’t waste anyone’s time.

Thanks for the reply.

It's super fast from sky who require openreach engineer to provide the service.

Behind that wall is the downstairs toilet. I've had a nose in there but can't see much.

Talking to the help line they said there has to be an ONT for superfast to work. Which I'm not sure about. Depends if there was a coax I suppose but I presume that BT66B is twisted pairs?

Coax? What this isn't Virgin Media where talking...

If its Sky Superfast you've ordered that comes in via the copper pair, not fibre direct to your home (FTTP). Sky Ultrafast is their FTTP offering

Sky will do Superfast on FTTP is you ask for it.

The previous owner said the Internet was really slow.
Just throwing this out there, above doesn't sound like the previous owner was using FTTP.

Makes you wonder if they were even vaguely aware there was fibre at the house that would have immediately resolved their “really slow internet”....

Probably were with the cheapest available provider (e.g. plusnet) who said they couldn't provide anything else.

Thanks everyone, i feel better knowing now that i wont get slow speeds if it gets installed.

I pulled the box open and can see some nice fibre. Popped it back. Called Sky and said the fibre is there but not inside. just said im trying to limit the delays so they come prepared with the ONT and bits.

I think the previous owner went with the cheapest option. I cant have slow speeds as i have to remote from home and partner has to perform online teaching.

Thanks all again. Much appreciated.

Good luck Rob. You're on the home stretch for all intents. The hardest part (at the moment) will be getting an engineer in the house - as along you're happy to of course, but the imperative is there.

Have an idea where you want the ONT installed. Cable pathway will be needed as appoproiate (by default theylll just want to stick it on the inside wall where the peno comes through). Otherwise make sure you have a double (power) socket nearby the proposed location.
