Re: Wait for FTTP or change provider

[re: jchamier] [link to this post]

you should be on the new one.

Thanks for letting me know

Er no, all 4 networks have a full 4G deployment. All 4 networks have reduced capacity on 3G and using the frequencies for 4G.

Sorry i should have been a little clearer, in my area St Neots over over 10000 people we only get 2G and 3G on Three there is no such thing as 4G here that's too recent here I have two three sims in two phones and have never had 4G around my area and if i have it has been intermittent and then switched back to 3G.

We can barely get 4G everywhere on EE and no 3G around here on that network.

Vodafone only has 4G coverage in my area. There might be 3G but i tested my phone in 3G mode only and it could not connect so i feel that there isn't

O2 has full coverage on 4G, 3G and 2G - so ultimately the network of choice ideally.

If you've not used Vodafone for a few years (that you know of) then you will be happy to things have changed a lot. Assuming you are using a 4G phone.

I am currently using a virtual operator on their (Vodafones) network the same goes for three mobile which i use to receive calls.

No, I don't even have a VM SIM, I buy from the 4 real networks, don't bother with the virtual offerings.

Okay i completely understand that.

That happens normally if you are on 2G but could be an incompatibility if you have an older Android at a guess.

Just for reference i was using an Iphone 7 Plus and have also done that on an iphone 6 so I would think its a sim or config on the sim than the devices its a bit odd but i know that one of the T-Mobile masts i'm on keep going down at the moment so not sure if that's causing an issue.

Many Thanks,

Is that a real Three SIM or a MVNO ?

Three has plenty of 4G transmitters in your area, assuming St Neots in Huntingdon area of Cambridgeshire.
We can barely get 4G everywhere on EE and no 3G around here on that network.
That would be really unusual in a major county like Cambridgeshire in 2021. I would agree it it was 2014.

Vodafone only has 4G coverage in my area. There might be 3G but i tested my phone in 3G mode only and it could not connect so i feel that there isn't
Something else is at fault as you will get 3G today everywhere you can get 4G, for CSFB, circuit switched fall back, what older non-4G Calling phones (e.g. older Androids) use for 4G data and then 3G voice.

O2 has full coverage on 4G, 3G and 2G - so ultimately the network of choice ideally.
Nationally O2 has the least capacity as they didn’t have the money to buy spectrum. Here in Hampshire I get 100 Mbps on EE, 70 Mbps on Vodafone, 40 Mbps on Three, and 4 Mbps on O2. No joke.

Just for reference i was using an Iphone 7 Plus and have also done that on an iphone 6 so I would think its a sim or config on the sim than the devices its a bit odd but i know that one of the T-Mobile masts i'm on keep going down at the moment so not sure if that's causing an issue.
The 7 should be running iOS 14.4.1 and with a real EE SIM should have Network Provider version of 45.0. With a real Vodafone SIM you would have the same provider version. (This is the config file from the network that apple sends to your phone). With virtual networks you get less because you are paying less.

The iPhone 6 is stuck on iOS 12, but the 6s can get 14, and the 6s and later does 4G calling if it turned on. The 6 is a bit of a mixed bag.

I have ordered multiple directly from the three site.

I did also mean indoors as well as outdoor although when i have internet radio in the car it starts and stops as you drive around so its not good, it only does it in the areas that ofcom state on their impartial map.

Three Voice with 4G option enabled

4G Three Data

EE 4G Data

EE 4G Voice

EE 3G Voice

EE 3G Data

OfCom map

I'm not going to upload all of the providers but you get an idea from that

I did know parts of that as my old iphone did the same i can change it to 4g calls if i wish or let it do as it wishes, It seems that ee and three have no 3G at all or atleast indoors the map is clear white I will upload some screenshots if i can.

I find that funny as O2 is the best network in Cambridgeshire all the others are awful or worse, I know O2 is the only network that has signal in the schools in st neots which if you get signal in a school you know that's good service especially when the walls are over 30CM think. You could literally bomb the place and the walls would not claps (I better not say that as 10 years ago a student bought in a WW2 hand grenade that was live and the bomb squad had to blow it up after they evacuated (only in st neots you get idiots like that))

The 7 should be running iOS 14.4.1 and with a real EE SIM should have Network Provider version of 45.0. With a real Vodafone SIM you would have the same provider version. (This is the config file from the network that apple sends to your phone). With virtual networks you get less because you are paying less.

I am always on the latest IOS as its my policy to keep all equipment up to date (or as much as possible) the provider version seems to be Virgin 45.1 on in my about menu so there seems to have been an update to that.

I agree with you on the 6 that's why i use it as my backup phone and it has a spare sim in it so when parties were allowed i would just get a free pay as you go sim activate it and then post the number around and take song requests on it it was great as after every event i could just store the sim if i would need it again for the same type of thing but after a few months they get scam calls so they just get disposed or passed onto the guy that does the event with me unfortunately I hate creating e-waste of any type but this is done once a year at most anyway and the last sim has been kept for over 2 years so until it dies i don't want to shred it as its not getting scam calls yet.

I hope you get an idea with that if you have any questions please let me know but i do agree it is odd that St Neots has rubbish signal all the locals know it my street literally have to go to the window to make phone calls if we dont have wifi calling. I bet you can imagine the conversations.

Many Thanks,

Orange Group does operate across the UK and is the UK's largest mobile phone operator.
Orange Group in the UK however only support leased lines at low cost once the installation is paid for.
Orange Group currently do offer FTTP services at a highly competitive rate.
Simply wrong!

The whole of Orange's UK operation (EE) , landline and mobile services, was sold to BT Group at the end of January 2016. The sale resulted in Orange having a 4% shareholding in BT. Whether they still have that I don't know.

I may get things confused on paper but not in practice. Actually doing whatever is needed is easy it's not theory when its being implemented. The provided services always end up with extremely happy associates and there have never been any issues.
I want to say that it was an error of judgement on my part and I feel that we should just move on and accept what happened and I will follow all of the steps i stated to make sure it doesn't happen again.

They sold up, didn't want any part of BT group plc:

It did indeed. Sorry. Fortunately the first reply was all that was needed.

The rest was someone who seems to like telling us completely irrelevant and half-garbled stuff. His VM connection is one of the congested ones, but even his own thread about that is ridiculous.
