it does, but it then has to go through a cheap chinese USB C to ethernet adapter. Ok. USB has always taken some main CPU to operate, and I suspect that might be why faster (10Gig, or FC adaptors) use Thunderbolt.

Possibly confusing you,
Tried 2 (and now 3) devices
2010 Macbook pro with built in ethernet
Surface Pro with usb-c to ethernet
and now PS4. PS4 gives me 500 up and 100 down so better. So everything points to the poor processors of he devices and not the Asus - IMHO
I just hauled out my 2010 MBP, dusted it off, the old girl can still fully and completely fill a 1 GbE on its built in port in both directions. In fact its just pulled down a 2.47 GB High Sierra (remember that!) update in around a minute.
I still suspect you either have a router or possibly cabling issue, but I suspect its your router.

right things are a changing - so bizarre. New test using Oola
MBP -
268 up and 906 down
SP with USB C to ethernet
845 up and 795 down
I have no idea why it was so slow earlier today or why the MBP cant achieve what the adapter can. Either way LAN is back!!!

New test using Oola
Maybe try downloading the large files from this page, and check Task Manger on Win10, and Activity Monitor on macOS to see the data rate.

I have a Thinkpad X61 with a Core2Duo and 8GB RAM, which runs Win10 (slowly) but it always could saturate its built in 1 GbE port when copying files to my NAS (which is connected with LACP 2xGbE).

In Win 10 you mean under performance/ethernet and report back the send a receive rate?

In Win 10 you mean under performance/ethernet and report back the send a receive rate? Yes, on my Virgin Cable service I can get this to show 200 Mbps easily.

Keep monitoring it. The wired results for the surface pro are more in line with what you’d expect - but could be better by around 100 Mbps. That could be down to the adapter.

Good news.
Another Hey! Broadband customer here.
I find the servers on Oola hit and miss on throughput. One minute many are reporting much slower speeds than the max, a couple of tests later and its the full 935Mb/sec again up and down.
However the server 'UK Dedicated Servers' in London gives me consistently 935Mb/s every time. Try that one.

Is that within Ookla? Cant see that option under servers.
