New FTTP Build - Initial 12 Months

We are having FTTP built in a rural community by an AltNet supplier. I imagine 90% will be via poles.

As this infrastructure will be in place for many years to come, would there be any advantage in initially ordering the 1000 Mbps service in order to ensure the best connection and then revert to a slower economical speed at the end of the first 12 month contract?

No

Fibre is fibre. Ordering a faster service if you don't need it is pointless. If you upgrade, the same infrastructure (down to the physical ports) will almost certainly be used, with a software update on the providers end changing service.

It will be better for your wallet if you start at what you think is the minimal speed needed and work up from there as necessary.

Many providers will allow you in-contract bandwidth package upgrades, but not the reverse. Check with them before committing.
