Flossing ducts

[link to this post]

Hello Guru's

we have today had one of BT's 3rd party contractors flossing "all" the ducts on my estate and installing pull ropes if missing.

my exchange isn't at present on the list of ones to be upgraded to fibre. but as they have done every duct I'm guessing they were undertaking early prep to do so.

the exchange is Ystradgynlais / glantawe and its cab 11 in the golwg y mynydd estate in godrergraig.

Flossing the ducts. That made me chuckle! 🤣

Sounds a lot better than the official “rod and roped”

There is also a chance that it might not be for Openreach.

Lots activity round this way with alnets rodding and roping Openreach ducts and boxes ready for their PIA FTTP products to appear.

Does you local authority have a mapping website for roadworks and utilities works that you can check progress?

I would have said use one.network, but due to some obsequious DfT data protection rules which came in a few months ago, they are far less useful than they once were with such matters - but you still maybe able to glean something there by looking for nearby related works.

Checking a random postcode from that location on www.openreach.com says that FTTP is on the way, so I'd expect to be able to order within the next year

It's a good sign if your in a slow speed or new build location.

The removal of actual details on one.network was down that us mear mortals shouldn't actually know the details of the works being carried out.

It really has been a step backwards frown
