fibre technology stuff

[link to this post]

I thought I would watch some videos about this fibre lark, about PON and stuff, it is really amazing how it all works and keeps working, so much to go wrong, and yet we rely on this technology every day, even if you don't have FTTP or even FTTC, we all still rely on these thin strands of glass.
Now I have got more of an understanding now of how PONs works and how the light is sent up the fibre and about refraction and oh dear, other stuff and what ONT does.
all very interesting, I knew a little, but with people gong about Passive optical networks, I thought I better learn more about them,

it still amazes me how this all keeps going, even taking away the optic fibre. Just a shame we use all this knowledge for so much bad stuff in the world

LOL, I wonder how much they know, or they just follow instructions, I mean the ones who do the fibre for the home type stuff?
One of the people doing the new fibre he around here, when I chatted to him, did not seem to know much about the ins and outs, but then I suppose he is just burying the cable, it will be those who install it will know more, well I hope so anyway.

It is just interesting and since I am off work for a week now, holiday from work, but now have an infection in my leg, I can't go anywhere, may as well watch something that educates me in my old age smile

I also sorted out the problems that my computer kept having connecting to the NAS

I wouldn't like to challenge what Openreach engineers know, but I'll just say that one of the engineers who installed our FTTP connection thought that I worked for them (I don't) from my knowledge gained on here and elsewhere! tongue
