Folk here are suggesting not to try for the 'nearby' on-demand trial. I did the back of a fag packet calculation. It's still going to be a couple of grand up front.
It'll be more than that: I've seen two quotes from Cerberus for 2620+VAT, on top of the 250+VAT survey fee. That's £3,444 up-front inc VAT. Then you have your increased monthly rental for the first 12 months.
My exchange is now officially FTTP 'complete'. As far as I can work out well over 90% of streets are done.
Fingers crossed they get around to backfilling the rest. It depends how desperate they are to get rid of the cabinets.
With PSTN switch-off going ahead in 2025 regardless, users will be switched over to SOGEA to allow decommissioning of the local exchanges.
However, given that Openreach and service providers don't want to *force* people from copper to FTTP, this means the cabinets will likely be around for a long time to come.
At least you'll find that crosstalk goes down over time. Indeed, once exchange-based DSL is gone, Openreach could crank up the power and extend the spectrum used by VDSL.
