Handsets for digital voice

[link to this post]

I have just signed up with Zen for a full FTTP package including Digital Voice.I know that I can plug my old DECT phones into the Zen supplied Frtitz!Box but I want to get some new fibre based phones. Most I have seen advertised state that they only work with a BT SmartHub. What spec do I need and has anyone any recommendations? I understand that these commmunicate with the router directly via wi-fi. We wanted a "local" number for various reasons. Having lived with poor ADSL connections for many years I am now enjoying a new build property that had a live Openreach ONT installed as standard.

What DECT do you currently have? Those handsets may be compatible with a new base statio.

My recommendations would be a Gigaset N300A IP which is slaso sold under other names such a 450-GO, 630-GO, 100-GO

The N300A-IP plugs into the network and you add your various VoIP numbers to it.

If you want features like a central phone book that all the handsets can access then you probably have to buy the Fritz branded handsets. Otherwise if you just want the phones to ring you can pair any GAP compatible handsets to the Fritzbox.

No need to buy Fritz branded handsets for advanced DECT features.

I bought a trio of Gigaset C430HX handsets for about £25 each and directly paired them with my Fritz!Box. They have access to the shared directory on the Fritz which I have configured to iCloud so they sync with my iPhone, and the message button lights-up and lets me retrieve and manage messages on the integrated answerphone. They also support the low power standby and HQ audio standards.

The Fritz is a really nice single-box solution for broadband and voice.

can I tag on to this thread and ask if the gigaset phones will work with the BT smart hub 2 as supplied for BT fttp or is there another solution other than bt's offerings

I use Gigaset N300IP base stations. At one location I ported my landline number from BT to Voipfone. At another location I am using Sipgate, the number begins with the local 4 digit code.

That's good to know, though I can't find any specific feature that you can look for in handsets that indicates whether they support things like the phone books. Gigaset claim on their website that they work with Fritz devices though so it's possible you got lucky with that combo.

I use a Gigaset base station and set of handsets with the Smart hub 2 for voip (Voipfone) and digital voice (Bt).

How do you get the BT Digital Voice service onto a Gigaset base?
