Commisioning Time?

[link to this post]

Over the past couple of months all our overhead cables have been replaced with fibre with CBT's on the pole outside my house. We are in a rural location and have been dealing with slow ADSL (3-6mbps) since we moved in.

A few weeks ago a Morrisons Telecoms engineer chapped the door to say he was working on our property and I took the chance to ask him when the lines were going live. He said the lines were 'lit' and I should be able to order fibre once Openreach had commsiioned them and signed them off.

How long does this nornally take? As I said its been a few weeks since the last activity in the area and I have 2 impatient boys (and me) waiting to get some online gaming fired up!

For anyones reference we are on the Chapelton exchange WSCHN, ML10 6TX

Once the OR guys have audited and passed the lit network then they pass to commissioning who then take 10 to 14 days to turn it on as live, You can then place orders the next day on some ISP's and more will be added as they update their databases. I went with Giganet and I could order the same day the OR fibre checker said my postcode and address were live. Then you have a further 4 weeks or so to wait for the install date. Mine was an r100 install which yours probably is too.

Looks as though that postcode is now active on the openreach checker. Have you tried again for your property?

Thanks, it was coming and going last night. I had tried to sign up with BT this afternoon but it came up with a fault and said the exchange may be getting upgraded. Will try again tomorrow!

Other ISPs may have their cablelinks already sorted at the parent exchange. BT used to be the first cab off the rank, when the lights went on, but not always.

You may want to check to see if you can order with a another ISP to see if it's not a BT Wholesale issue.

I'm wondering if it may be an issue with my address?

The postcode check shows 2 variations of my address. 1 seems to refer to my copper line and the other to the new fibre line. I wonder if trying to transfer my phone number is causing issues if the system thinks they are at 2 different properties.

You need to use the "Cant find your address" link to contact OR and tell them the issue. State both variations of the address and what state the checker gives for each. Ttey should sort out the issue in the database for you. This is normally done within a week in my experience.

The more detail you can give the better., so if you know the DP the CBT is on state that and even provide a picture of the house (from street view) so they know exactly which premises you are talking about.

Same with my postcode, the fibre install has created 2 duplicate properties with an extra line of text. These were the properties with existing copper links, my copper had no active link so no duplication. Must be a consequence of it being an R100 install and the fibre being linked to a different exchange.

I’ve managed to sign up now for fibre possibly just too impatient to let everything open up. Installation date of 20th January was given.

I ended up going with Vodafone who were offering a good deal but immediately after I’ve had issues logging into my Vodafone account and after reading about their poor customer service I’m thinking I might cancel this deal and pay a few pounds extra to go with one of the ‘better’ companies.
