The way that stop and starts so suddenly seems either like a sudden drop off of capacity (upstream noise issues?) or a heavy uploader starting and stopping.
To be honest, there are all three of those, one of the guys down the road is another IT guy so maxes the bandwidth a lot.
We also have a noise issue, the modulation drops depending on the time of day, if i reboot the modem at the wrong time speeds suffer and the modulation does too.
Generally speaking my samknows whitebox reports all to be good (at least in recent times)
Admittedly last nights / todays was me I was downloading a few TBs of data from my old server offsite to my new one so maxed out the link (well the 500Mbps leased line was maxed out at the remote site and I coped)
