FTTP Availability

[link to this post]

At long last Openreach engineers have been spotted installing a fibre distribution point on the pole outside my house, so I decided to see if it was available to order. Vodafone, Plusnet, Sky and Zen all say I can now order but suprisingly BT say not available at my address! Is it usual for BT to be later than other ISPs to offer a service?

Openreach would be the first to confirm you can order.

Then it’s up to the other networks when they update their systems based on openreach data.

BT retail aren’t meant to get any special treatment even though they are part of the same group as openreach.

I've today had an email from Openreach, that tells me FTTP is now finally in their plans for my road, and my adddress, and will be available from Sept 2023 !!! Well they have about 48 hours left to get on with it then !

Yesterday I had a discussion with my brother-in-law who lives about half a mile away. He said that a lot of work had been done on his estate in the last couple of weeks and it had improved his fttc reliability and he was also now able to order fttp up to 900Mbps but he wasn't going to bother upgrading.

I said that if ever fttp becomes available to me I shall order straightaway. He insisted that I could get it now and I should just check on the EE website.

I did (knowing that fttp isn't available) but I'm offered "Full Fibre Max 100". It's not full fibre at all it's fttc with GFast. No wonder people get confused.

It's not unknown. Sometimes it's because the BT Wholesale backbaul network doesn't have sufficient capacity at the exchange - however, I'm pretty sure Plusnet will be using that network.

Therefore it could simply be that BT Retail are just taking some time updating their databases.

If you really want to order from BT, then wait a week, and if they're still not showing it as available then phone them up.
