Re: New 1Gig Service

"Are they really saying that after a week, there is still a reason why no more than 100Mbits/sec is acceptable."

Correct, even though my friend has showed evidence of offers by BT of minimum speed guarantees of 700MB on BT, they have ignored these discussion and said nothing other than 150MB is no uncommon! and we will push Openreach to get you faster.

All seems like BS to me. He has checked it is 1Gb connection to ONT, he said he has seen speed tests of 200, 400

but now it's just 90-100 constant

Unbelieable [censored] this ISP, I would never saign up to a service with them,.

Circuit should provide full and immediate bandwidth immediately. There is no “training” with FTTP or routers etc [censored] basically settling. That’s just meaningless patter they trot out.

Might’ve missed it. Has the fault been reported?

Currently my friend does not get any faster than 90-100Meg, via router, direct from PC with just a PPPoE connection

Sounds like either:

(a) network adapter set at 100
(b) network card not capable of more than 100 eg it isn't a gigabit ethernet adapter
(c) cable is not a cat5e or better, but just cat5 (eg 2 pair and nor 4 pair)

d) ancient CPU with a lot of third party antivirus software clogging up the operating system

23 years of broadband connectivity since 1999 trial - Live BQM

Feels unlikely given it's getting pretty much exactly what I'd expect for a hard 100 meg limited interface.
