Alternative to Gigaclear

[link to this post]

I have used Gigaclear FTTH for the last 6 years and have had great service. I would recommend them to anybody. However, I am moving to Squirrel - still using the Gigaclear fibre but at a greatly reduced cost. £49 vs £80 for the same 900Mbps service with a static IP.

I will provide an update when the switch takes place on 20231119.

You were paying Gigaclear much more than shown in their current price list, why was that?

18 month contact for their 900meg service and a static IP.
I nocked them down £10.
I now pay £49 for 900 megs

Just to share, recently renewed with GC after end of initial 18m term. Quoted Squirrel new customer deals and pleased to say that GC offered an even better deal to keep my business.

Never had cause to rely on GC customer support which sounds somewhat lacking from the experience of other customers, so potentially superior levels of customer service from Squirrel isn’t a consideration for me… currently!

Gigaclear quote wholesale pricing to partners and then undercut them.
You can decide what to call that behaviour.
£49 for Gig FFTH is a great deal. If it can be provided by Squirrel then GC could do a lot better that £80 up front.
That is why I am buying from Squirrel.
I am a Yorkshireman who likes a good deal but....... - I'll leave it at that.

Hi, did you get Squirrel fibre? How has it been? I am considering between them or Gigaclear as it's my only choice. I was thinking of Squirrel but they will have to process my order manually if I do.

I've been with Squirrel almost a year now and I would quite happily recommend them to anyone. Connection never drops. Speeds are spot on as advertised. Phones / messages have always been answered immediately.

I recall seeing some posts online about their IP reputation not being the best e.g. getting a lot of CAPTCHA on Google and Cloudflare and sites thinking you're not in the UK, I assume you've not had any of that from your review?

No, can’t say I have. All IP based locations put me in Uppingham, which is where their office is located.

I've had Squirrel for a little over 5 months, had some initial problems due to MS3 but since then it's been pretty solid with the only real problem being a couple of occasions when a popular game update/release slowed the network at peak.

Interactions with support has been excellent, quick to respond and can provide technical responses.

BQM has always shown some low level packet loss and I've noticed the same with other Squirrel customers, I havent seen any issues with it in normal use though - pinging has no dropped packets, games don't report packet loss, so maybe just something with the route or hardware between BQM and Squirrel.

I've not had any issues with CAPTCHA any more frequently than previously or Geofencing but I can't get on bet365, according to the network tab it tries to load something and gets an error from Cloudflare "Web server is returning an unknown error" "Error code 520" so that could be Geofencing related but I'd need to get bet365 to investigate and I haven't bothered since it wasn't me trying to get on the site.

It's a bargin on the MS3 network though; current deal was £35 for 24 months, first 3 at £1.
I just hope there isn't a huge jump on renewal.
