FTTP on Demand 1000 ?

[link to this post]

So for about a week now the DSL checker for my address has change from FTTP on Demand 330/50
To FTTP on Demand 1000/220?

Still says FTTP not available.

is this just a new on demand product or an error?

Virgin Media FTTP 550mbs.

Your property record has been touched within the database, this could be nothing or it may soon change again to something better like FTTP

Exactly that. To clarify: FTTP on Demand has been 1000/220 for years now (and this is what you would have got, if you'd ordered it). However, when the product changed to this, they did not go around all the existing database entries updating them.

So it's only when they update your property's entry in the database for some other reason, that you find it being refreshed to FTTPoD 1000/220.

And sometimes this happens just before your property is switched to FTTP available.

Interestingly they will have to update it again when the faster speeds become national and a proper product! One thing i didn't realise it was simply changed to when the db entry is changed too.

I'd assume it means they are installing fibre. What does the Openreach checker say for your address?

What does installing fibre on your estate mean?

I reckon they're getting ready to send you back to ADSL! laugh

Either a nearby mobile mast is getting an upgrade (as happened around here); a business nearby is buying a higher capacity leased line, or you are lucky and Openreach have ducts that can be used to bring FTTP to your road. (Unlike many of my friends whom are all DIG). Any of ther above...

FTTP on Demand means FTTP is in the area but you would have to pay FULL install costs

WBC FTTP is the product that you need to be available to show FTTP is available at your address
It will also change the ONT order status to show your address has FTTP available.

It doesn't necessarily mean FTTP is in the area - FTTPoD is available to all properties in the UK, except MDUs. (It used to be that you had to be in an FTTC-enabled area, but that restriction was removed).

Of course, if there isn't a fibre aggregation node nearby, then the costs of FTTPoD can be astronomical rather than simply ruinous.

In general though you're right: "FTTPoD is available" means exactly the same as "FTTP is not available", and "WBC FTTP" means "FTTP is available".
