Basically where I live Openreach and CityFibre have avaiblity in my area. I've recently installed FTTP with EE. When my contract is up with EE, if I decided to get Vodafone's symmetrical broadband via CityFibre's network, would that mean a new outside Junction box from CityFibre, or could they use Openreach's Junction box?

Different network. New box. New ONT. Never the twain shall meet.

And you could pay for both at once, for redundancy.
Note that depending on the area of the UK, you may have other provider choices than Vodafone on the Cityfibre network.

Aye, but given the publicised woes of CityFibre in York very recently; chose your 'resilient' other fibre network provider carefully, if that's the main aim.😅

What I meant was one on Cityfibre and one on Openreach.

I understand.
I'm questioning whether I'd want CityFibre as my resilient network of choice, given they apparently have a hard time providing their core routers in their FeX's with an independent A and B power path.
Resilence is not much good if the whole FTTP network dies, because of a single faulty circuit breaker.

You pays your money, you takes your pick: exchange-level outages in Openreach do seem to be less common. But at least it wasn't a nationwide outage.
Aside: later stories say it was an issue not with power as such, but with failing A/C and overheating (which implies they're not monitoring their A/C, or the FEX temperature)

Who needs to monitor the temps when you can pay someone to open the exchange door and fan the air out
