Question about Moving Home

[link to this post]

Its been so long since I moved that I'm hoping someone can clarify the process about who does what when moving properties. I'm asking for a young couple moving into a property that already has an Openreach FTTP connection via Plusnet and the young couple want to sign up with Plusnet. Is it as easy as the young couple placing an order with Plusnet for that property and the existing owners notify Plusnet that they are moving so want to cease the service? I think the existing couple are moving to a property which has CityFibre so not staying with Plusnet.

As far as I am aware, yes.

The new owners contact their provider of choice, and the provider essentially handles the rest.

54-46 was my number

New owners should remember, it is extremely bad form to organise any part of the move until missives are concluded [contracts are exchanged outwith Scotland], because if the deal falls through, this can cause problems for continuing owners.

Hopefully they'll leave the ONT in place or there will be a problem

Yes, nothing should be done until contracts are exchanged. There will also be a gap of 14 days (10 working days) anyway, because the 'losing' ISP sends a letter to the 'old' occupants, saying 'sorry you're leaving us' as an anti- slamming measure.

It's important that the old occupants ignore the letter, to allow the process to complete without a glitch.

Typically, the gap between exchange of contracts and completion is 14 days anyway, but if it's less than that, then there will be a gap in the service for the new owners
