Openreach to Gigaclear

[link to this post]

Currently with Sky FTTP via an overhead cable from an Openreach owned pole. We have the standard grey CSP outside plus cable to the ONT inside. Once I got rid of the Sky router and fitted an ASUS unit the connection has been faultless.
We're out of contract soon and Gigaclear are offering some really good deals to switch to their FTTP service (which is supplying my neighbour from the same pole).
My question is will they have to run another cable from the pole to the house making three in total (two fibre plus one legacy phone line) and install another connection box and modem , or can they connect at the pole and use the existing cables.
The other risk is the break in service between leaving Sky and Gigaclear making the connection. If anyone has any experience of this I’d appreciate hearing how it went.

Another drop cable from the street and another ONT for Gigaclear. They are a completely separate network to Openreach.

They will run another cable from the pole so you will have three in total.

As it will be a separate cable, there is nothing stopping you (other than cost) from arranging the Gigaclear order and the Sky cancellation so that you have a period of time when the two services overlap - that will minimise or eliminate the risk of any break in service.

When I switched from VM to BT I had an overlap period too. VM was obviously faster so I used it for downloading. BT obviously slower but has much lower latency so used it for gaming.

During your overlap period, you could try bonding both connections to get the sum of both network speeds smile
