static ip address query

[link to this post]

I recently joined Toob fttp via City Fibre and so far it's all good. I paid for a static ip address as I hoped it would make life easier for my partner as she sometimes uses logmein for remote access to one of her clients. Toob said they would email me all the details of the static ip address but so far I've had nothing. Phoned the helpdesk this morning and the guy I spoke to reckons it's all done remotely; just reboot the router and it will pick up the static ip address; does that sound logical?! I was expecting to log into the router and add it manually but he says that's not the way they do it. So can anyone enlighten me please?!

Quite normal : it is now Plusnet did it as well.

Use thinkbroadband’s page to show your IP and see if it compares with what you were told

Absolutely standard that you don't configure your WAN IP address on your router, regardless of whether it is static, dynamic or CGNAT. Think of the mayhem if punters were setting their own IP addresses.

What might be poor is if the helpdesk can't tell you what they think your IP address should be. Obviously, you can find it from the router if the connection is live and there is a tool on the main part of this site to find the address.

Many thanks for that; I'm still awaiting an email with all the ip address details so I can double check!
