ONT Installation requirements

[link to this post]

Hello,

Just a quick question. Does the ONT have to be wall mounted? Is it possible to have it lying on top of a table or on a rack?

Thanks.

I would say ‘yes’ … this holds it in place, and therefore reduces movement to the fibre and connector.

My (altnet) ONT is sat on a table next to the router. I think OR like to wall mount them though.

I suspect as long as the ONT is "fixed" in some manner, it should be okay. I doubt if it's just lying loose would be a good idea.

How are the ONTs mounted to the wall? drill and wall plug? adhesive?

Mine is hooked onto two screws on the wall. There were mounting holes on the back plate of the ONT

I don’t got one, but that is how they fix to the wall.

Is it a separate ONT converting fibre to ethernet, or is it similar to Nexfibre where the end user router takes the fibre directly in from the wall?
