FTTP newbie questions

[link to this post]

Have had FTTC for years but soon making the switch to FTTP. Couple of questions about the installation:

1 - I believe the engineer will install the ONT but where do they usual instal it inside the premises, is it generally where the old copper master socket is or just any place near a power source?

2 - i currently have a Netgear fttc modem/router, will this work if i connect it to the ONT via Ethernet or do you need specific fttp routers?

Thanks

1. No, it doesn’t have to be near the existing copper NTE. But a permanent power supply should be close at hand to the location you select.

2. No idea … can you post model number, and I expect someone else will know.

Just plug the ethernet cable from the ONT into the port on the back of the router that says WAN (e.g. the most right on the bank of 4 ethernet ports)

If you're buying a super fast FTTP service you may not get all the speed you pay for with this router. Depends what you are buying.

It depends which ISP you sign up with. They all use different authentication protocols so you’ll need to see whether your router supports the one they use.

I thought there was really only two types typically used, either PPPoE or IPoE
