Upgrade to FTTP router settings changes?

[link to this post]

I have booked an upgrade from SOGEA to FTTP with my existing ISP (IDnet). I will be using my existing router. Will I need to change any settings in the router when FTTP is installed or is it simply a matter of connecting an ethernet cable between the ONT and the router? IDnet mentions a new username and password for FTTP.
IDnet suggests that "I do not need to worry about that and the engineer will take care of it all". Call me cautious but I do not really want anyone messing with my router.

You will need to take account of the fact that SOGEA does not deliver ethernet, so it goes to a different type of port, uually an RJ11. FTTP uses ethernet on RJ45 and must go to the WAN ethernet port on the router. Other than that, you would normally find that the logon credentials are the same - but that is not guaranteed.

Thanks for your reply. I was aware about RJ45 going to WAN port. As I wrote IDnet say that the login credentials will be different and they quote them. So my question is how are these changed in a TPLink VX230v router - or will IDnet do that remotely. Hopefully a IDnet customer with experience of the upgrade will be able to help?

If the router is supplied by IDnet, you can expect them sort it, albeit they might need to tell you over the phone or send you a crib sheet. I cannot see this job being done remotely. If it is your own router, dig out the manual or find it with google and at the very least make sure you can log in and find the credentials page before the changeover

I also on TP Link VX230v (yep the good news - it will work with FTTP but you have to force it into EWAN on TP Router login and use below settings

Go to Advanced mode and on the left side under Network mode, click DSLWAN and deleted it. Now add EWAN below:

ISP List - Other
VLAN ID: untick box (FTTP do not use it)
Internet Connection Type: PPPoE
Username: input your ISP username
Password: input your ISP password

and save it, you are all good to go! Make sure ONT Lan connect to back of TP LInk Wan port. The rest of Lan port connect to your pc, laptop etc.

Thanks for your help adslmax,

You're very welcome but I think IDNet should put this instructions on their support page for hardware but I was surprised they didn't.
