One flat in the block has FTTP from a nearby pole

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a flat in a small block of 8 in the centre of town. The building was converted from a nursing home into a block of flats. If I do an availability check on any of the 8 flats they only show SOGEA available. However, properties next door on both sides show Openreach FTTP available, as do all the other nearby properties.

I went to look at the outside of the property today and from looking at the front (street-facing) I can see no drop wires, but as I looked round the back I noticed that one of the flats has Openreach FTTP from a pole at the back of the building (drop wire to fascia board, cable to Openreach box that looks like this https://lymm.uk/sites/default/files/2022-06/2022.10%... and a single cable going through the wall into their flat).

This leads me to believe that most of the flats must be using underground cabling connected to the Openreach copper network, but somehow one flat has managed to get a new FTTP provide. How is this possible? I was under the impression that if your address showed no FTTP availability, you couldn't persuade Openreach to connect you via a different/nearby pole.

Thanks
Matt

Have you checked all of the flat numbers for that building with this https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/...

Was the conversion done recently or years ago. What also may have happened is that fttpod was installed to that flat. And at one time when fttpod was installed they didn't enable properties passed.

It was converted in 2020. All of the addresses on the BT availability checker show no FTTP available apart from one which says "We cannot determine broadband availability at this location. This may be a new address to which connectivity is not yet complete."

Thank you; there is one dot on the map for the whole building and it says:

Project Gigabit Lot: 6
Lot Name: Devon & Somerset
OMR Status: White
No change in status since May 2025
Address is not in a Gigabit Contract
BDUK data suggests: No Gigabit service
BDUK data suggests: No known future Gigabit rollout
Not in an approved voucher area

the Devon funding is split into

CO2 Devon, Mid Wales and South East Wales

CO4 South Devon, Mid Devon and North Somerset

because of the split there may be a delay in new scoping

it may be worth asking the appropiate firm/agency or owner what the wire is and take it from there. it might worth asking around.

Single dot as uprn are probably stacked at same lat/lng
